Take in the architectural elegance and grown-up atmosphere of Leadenhall Market, in London’s Square Mile, and hear about its Roman origins and links to the one-time mayor extraordinaire, Dick Whittington. Wind through the streets of this once deprived area, a hunting ground for the infamous Jack the Ripper, and hear how this lively district has been repeatedly regenerated and renewed into a financial centre.

Explore trendy Spitalfields Markets with its fashion pop ups and independent boutiques. Hear about the cultural influences from international settlers: from Huguenot silk weavers to Ashkenazi

Jews and Bengalis. See street names in Bengali and chapels converted into mosques, alongside conservation areas of Georgian houses, and an English Baroque architectural masterpiece, in this playground for contemporary artists.

Ignite your taste buds in an authentic Brick Lane restaurant, the most famous curry location in London. Tuck into a tasting menu of different home cooked Bengali dishes delicately flavoured with fragrant spices.

What you will be tasting:

Indulge in a delicious assortment of flavourful curries, perfectly paired with rice and chutneys. 

The meal is suitable for gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan guests. Filtered water will be provided at the curry venue.

What you should know:

There are pay-to-use public toilets near to Borough Market, and free public toilets at Spitalfields Market, as well as free toilets for guests at the curry house.

The walk is approximately 1.7 miles long along flat pavements with stops and opportunities to sit down on benches on the way.
